Wimbledon Embraces Video Challenge Technology in 2025.

The Championships court with replay technology

The tournament joins the American and Aussie Opens in utilizing replay systems.

Replay technology are set to arrive at Wimbledon in the upcoming tournament.

Competitors are granted the ability to challenge certain decisions made by the official, following the system currently in use at each of the American Grand Slam and the Aussie major.

This technology will be accessible on Centre Court and the number one court for the duration of the tournament and on the remaining featured courts when they are staging singles contests.

This step follows just a season following the AELTC introduced ELC, which terminated the centuries-old role of line judges.

What Can Be Reviewed?

Competitors cannot to dispute the accuracy of the electronic line calling, but they can request the official to re-examine specific situations, including:

  • Whether a tennis ball has double-bounced.
  • If a shot touched an rival's racket or person during play.
  • Possible hindrance at the conclusion of a point.

Notably, there will be no limit on the number of reviews a player can request.

A Recent Example

An illustrative case took place in a recent tournament last week, where a top player used the review system against his opponent.

Draper admitted it was a difficult situation for the official, but believed his rival had "used the regulations effectively."

Official Aurelie Tourte viewed a video and determined Draper was guilty of interference, awarding the point to his opponent.

Growing Trend

Video reviews aren't exclusive to major tournaments. It has been in use at the American major since 2023 and the Aussie Open since 2025.

Additionally, it is increasingly prevalent on the women’s WTA Tour, and by the coming year the men's ATP Tour plans to have the system implemented at every one of its events.

Additional Innovations

Another change at The Championships 2025 will be the introduction of graphical cues on scoreboards to support the audio calls from the ELC system.

This solves instances where fans have occasionally been unsure whether a ball was in or out.

Finally, with precisely 100 days remaining until the start of the tournament, organizers have also announced an expansion in daily attendance at the qualifiers in Roehampton.
